Final Guys #4 – The Mummy

The reboot of Universal monsters has begun! This week The Final Guys unwrap The Mummy. It’s the new Tom Cruise movie and the official launch of the Dark Universe. The Mummy kicks off a new series of films that will feature reimagined versions of Dracula, Frankenstein, the Wolf Man, Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Invisible Man and more.

Along with Cruise, the film stars Annabelle Wallis, Sofia Boutella, Jake Johnson and Russell Crowe. Crowe plays the dual role of Dr. Jekyll and another classic monster that we won’t spoil here.

So… is The Mummy any good? That’s the big question. There’s a lot riding on this film. Does the Dark Universe have a bright future? We’ll let you know what we think.

This week’s watch list includes a wide variety of flicks you may or may not want to seek out. The movies include The Devil’s Candy, Life, The Eyes of My Mother, The Dark, Swamp Ape and the Chuck Norris “classic” Hellbound. Plus, a couple of documentaries; I Know What I Saw and Expedition Bigfoot: Are we Ready for the Truth?

Prefer a good read? This week’s horror bookshelf features: The Séance in Apartment 10 by Ambrose Ibsen and Doctor Sleep by an up-and-comer named Stephen King.

Enjoy the show and as usual, please let us know what you think.

"JASON BRANT" is an anagram for Bas Trojann, a former Bigfoot hunter who, after being abducted (and subsequently returned) by aliens, decided to hang up his ghillie suit and enter the world of professional arm wrestling. Despite back-to-back first place finishes in the South Dakota World International Championship League, Bas receded from athletics to invent cheese and give Al Gore the initiative to create the internet. Nearly a decade after writing the bestselling self-help series, Tomato Soup and Grilled Cheese (Cut into Four Pieces) for the Soul, Bas has left his life of notoriety and critical acclaim behind him to write existential, erotic poetry. His wife washes their clothing on his abs.
